Ephesians 6 :14, Belt and Breast plate
Matthew 2
Welcome to today's episode of "The Armour Series. Am Matthew, I’m so glad to have you here as we continue this series and explore one of the most vital pieces of spiritual advice in the Bible — standing firm, clothed in truth and righteousness. Ah, it’s just such a beautiful, powerful call to action, isn’t it?
Matthew 2
Alright, let's start by looking at Ephesians 6:14. It says, "Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place." Now, take a moment to picture this. Paul isn’t just describing abstract ideas; he’s painting the image of a Roman soldier, fully equipped for battle. Truth as a belt, righteousness as armour—it's, well, it's a metaphor that packs a punch, don’t you think?
Matthew 2
But what does it mean, realistically, for us to "wear" truth and righteousness in our daily lives? Hmm. You know, I think we can all agree that truth seems, well, undervalued in today’s world. There’s so much noise—false information, distorted narratives—it’s like we’re bombarded every single day. I mean, how do we even begin to stand firm in truth when the very meaning of truth feels under attack? I don’t know about you, but it can feel overwhelming. everybody now defines truth as it suits them, you hear statements like " this is my truth or what is your truth.
Matthew 2
And yet, this is exactly why Paul’s words are so critical. Standing firm begins with a foundation, doesn't it? The belt of truth isn’t just for show; it holds everything together. It reminds us to ground ourselves in God's unwavering truth—the truth is, Jesus is the lord, the truth is, Jesus is God, the truth is, Jesus is the way, the truth and life, John 14 verse 6, the truth is, the bible is the word of God, these are all true, universally true, stand firm on it.
Matthew 2
Now, let’s talk about righteousness—the breastplate. It’s easy to think of righteousness in terms of morality, isn’t it? Like, doing good things, being a good person. And while that’s part of it, Biblical righteousness isn’t something we achieve on our own, no. It’s, uh, it’s given to us by God through Christ. Ah, it’s so humbling when you think about it, isn’t it? No matter how flawed or broken we are, God covers us in His righteousness, protects us, defends us. And what a gift that is. I hope you know that this is not a license to continue in sin, but a call to genuine repentance so that the grace may continue. Remember, Romans 6 verse 1 - "
Matthew 2
In my own life, I’ve wrestled with this, honestly. There have been times when I felt far from righteous, because of mistakes and shortcomings. You’ve probably felt that too, right? Moments where you think, "How can God possibly accept me when I’m struggling?" But that’s the beauty of grace. It’s not about earning righteousness; it’s about embracing it—and letting it transform how we live and interact with others.
Matthew 2
So, here’s a question to ponder: What would standing firm in truth and wearing the breastplate of righteousness look like in your life today? Maybe it’s being honest in a situation where it’s tempting to cut corners. Maybe it’s offering kindness to someone who doesn’t really deserve it. Or maybe—just maybe—it’s choosing to believe that, through Christ, you’re already enough, even when the world tells you otherwise. Or is it choosing integrity instead of pleasing people? The truth is all we have, it is the belt that holds everything together for us as God's children and ambassadors
Matthew 2
And that’s the challenge Paul gives us. To stand, strong and unshaken, not because of who we are, but because of who Jesus is. To stand firm, not in perfection, but in steadfast faith, holding tight to the truth and letting righteousness guard our hearts.
Matthew 2
So my prayer for you, and me, is this: May we live each day clothed in the truth of God's Word and the righteousness of Christ, standing firm no matter the storms that come our way in Jesus name Amen. And as Paul said, having done all, to stand. And that’s all for today. Until next time, as we look at the next part of the Armour, stay strong, stay faithful. God bless.
