It's always the word

This episode examines Psalm 119 and its enduring lessons on spiritual guidance, reflection, and decision-making.

Chapter 1

Hiding God's Word in Your Heart for Spiritual Direction

Matthew

Welcome to another episode, I am Matthew Akinola, we are looking at Psalms today, I hope you are blessed as you listen. Psalm 119 gives us a profound picture of what it means to align our lives with God's Word. In verse 11, we read, "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee." And in verse 105, it continues with, "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path." These verses, you know, call out to the core of our spiritual walk—finding direction, strength, and protection in scripture.

When we talk about "hiding" God's Word in our hearts, it's not about secrecy, but instead about this deep, internal connection—placing His words so close to us that they lead our thoughts, guide our choices, and enrich our spirit. It’s like having a well that never runs dry, always there to draw from in times of need. And memorizing scripture plays such a key role here. It’s interesting how the act of memorizing, even just a single verse, can change your thought patterns, influencing everything from how you approach conflict to the decisions you make under pressure.

Now, verse 105 takes this a step further by likening God's Word to a lamp and a light. Imagine navigating a dark and treacherous path—just one step wrong, and you could stumble. But that light, that steady beam, reveals each step ahead, keeping you safe and secure. I think we all have moments where the journey feels uncertain, and overwhelming even, but scripture brings clarity. In my life, there have been countless times where I felt, well, completely stuck, but turning to these verses, just simple reminders of God's promises, shifted everything.

So, when we embrace these verses—not just reading them but bringing them into our daily lives—they become more than words on a page. They become alive, shaping how we walk, think, and connect with God. And on that note, I just encourage you, as we close today, to find those verses that resonate with your heart and let them be your anchor. If you have not received Jesus as your savior please do so, that's when these words will work for you. Until next time, stay blessed and keep His Word close.
